Jul 29 - Tarot Characters: 4 of Pentacles (pop culture)

🃏 The 4 of Pentacles usually looks like a rich man gripping his money tightly, and is often read as 'greed' or 'refusal to share'. But at heart, it's about fear. Fear of loss, fear of not having enough, fear that letting go of what you have will hurt others. Here are three pop culture moments that capture different sides of this card:

Wakanda (Black Panther/MCU)

Wakanda has survived by keeping its wealth, technology and culture hidden from the outside world. That caution has protected generations - but eventually becomes its own prison. The Four of Pentacles reminds us that security is important, but when we cling too tightly to what we have, we can stop ourselves from growing.

4 of Pentacles Vibes:

  • Protects what's precious at all costs
  • Holds on out of fear, not greed
  • Learns that safety and isolation aren't the same thing

Elsa (Frozen)

Elsa keeps herself under tight control for fear of what would happen if she let go. Believing her powers are only dangerous, she isolates herself from the people she loves, convinced that distance is the only way to keep them safe.

4 of Pentacles Vibes:

  • Holds on through fear
  • Mistakes control for safety
  • Learns that vulnerability isn't weakness

Abuela Madrigal (Encanto)

Abuela loves her family, but she thinks their service - to the town and to the miracle - is more important than anything else. She holds tightly to her control over the family, fearing that letting go will mean dishonouring her beloved husband's sacrifice.

4 of Pentacles Vibes:
  • Clings tightly to tradition
  • Protects out of love and fear
  • Finds healing by learning to let go
