Sep 12 - Eight of Cups (images)

Eight of Cups Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

Don't go in fear. Go with that lovely smile.

The Eight of Cups is about walking away. What you were doing is finished and there's no point trying to force any more from it. It's time to look towards the horizon and move on to newer things.

1. Sugar Skull Tarot — Western and gritty

This cowboy rides away from eight perfect cups. The draw of what's ahead must be very strong to entice him to leave them behind.

Eight of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Departure, choice, seeking something more
  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Restless, determined, quietly hopeful
  • ✨ Unique: Leaving behind the comfortable to follow the road ahead

2. Unfolding Path — Modern and clear

There's something almost jaunty in the way this man adjusts his hat as he strides away. The cups behind him have fallen over, but he doesn't look back as he walks towards his future.

Eight of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Moving forward, release, new horizons
  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Light-hearted, confident, optimistic
  • ✨ Unique: Knowing when to stop looking back

3. Patch Tarot — Colourful and deep

The five cups being left behind are leaky and dripping - no longer fit for what he needs. Ahead of him are three imaginary new cups; he's looking forward to finding them as he travels.

Eight of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Outgrowing, possibility, seeking fulfilment
  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Thoughtful, adventurous, expectant
  • ✨ Unique: Trusting that something better can be found, even when you can't see it yet

Reflection:
Across decks, the Eight of Cups highlights the courage needed to walk away from what no longer serves and towards an uncertain future. Which part of your life is no longer working?

Aug 31 - 3 of Pentacles (images)

3 of Pentacles Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

I get by with a little help from my friends

The Three of Pentacles is the card of teamwork, collaboration and shared expertise. Traditionally, it's shown as skilled craftspeople working together, but modern decks use all sorts of settings to show what happens when people bring their different skills together.

1. Unfolding Path — Modern and bright

Bees are some of nature's most famous team players, and this card brings that idea to life with honeycomb, an orchard in bloom, and a young worker learning from an older one. It's a bright, modern take on the traditional meaning of the card.

3 of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Teamwork, mentorship, shared knowledge, craftsmanship
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Warm, productive, encouraging
✨ Unique: The bees make the collaborative nature of the card literal, while the older worker teaching the younger one adds the idea that skills are passed from one generation to the next.

2. Witch's Cat — Cute but meaningful

The Witch's Cat shows three paws, each contributing an ingredient to help the plant in the centre grow. They're working together to create something new.

3 of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Cooperation, contribution, growth, shared purpose
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Playful, hopeful, nurturing
✨ Unique: Each cat contributes something different, showing that teamwork doesn't mean everyone doing the same thing. The finished creation depends on all three.

3. Tarot Draconis — Scary but honest

Although the huge looming dragon could be a bit distracting in this card, he seems to be offering advice to the stone carver, who's concentrating hard on his work. Advice can come from anywhere, even an unusual source, and still be valued.

3 of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Learning, mentorship, expertise, openness
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Curious, thoughtful, slightly mysterious
✨ Unique: The teacher is an enormous dragon rather than another human craftsperson, reminding us that useful knowledge can come from unexpected places.

Reflection:
Across decks, the 3 of Pentacles emphasises the value of working together and honing skills. It shows us that learning from each other lifts us all. Who can you teach, or learn from, today?

Jun 15 - Nine of Pentacles (Images)

Nine of Pentacles Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

I did it my way.

The Nine of Pentacles is the card of independence, success and relaxation. It reminds us that our wins are our own and it's fine to celebrate them. In the traditional RWS, this is shown by a woman standing in a lush garden, enjoying the results of her work. Newer decks show this in a variety of ways.

1. The Unfolding Path — Gentle and modern

This is the closest version to the traditional. A well dressed gentleman stands in a garden under cherry blossoms, with a beautiful white peacock nearby. He's enjoying his prosperity, but the blossoms lend an air of ephemerality - they don't last, and maybe his blessings won't either, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy them while they're here.

Nine of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Self-sufficiency, prosperity, appreciation, enjoying the present
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Graceful, reflective, quietly confident
✨ Unique: The cherry blossoms add a reminder that abundance is temporary. Rather than diminishing the card, that makes it more meaningful - what we have now is worth appreciating while it lasts.

2. Kids' Tarot — Bright and cheerful

In the children's deck, this child has worked hard to find the bounty he's picking from this tree. It's his reward for work well done, and he's obviously enjoying it!

Nine of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Achievement, reward, independence, earned success
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Proud, joyful, satisfied
✨ Unique: By focusing on the harvest itself, the card captures the simple delight of seeing hard work pay off. There's no luxury here - just the happiness of a job well done.

3. Tarot for You and Me — Inclusive and clever

Resting on a garden chair, surrounded by nine leaves, this woman has worked hard to raise her harvest and is now enjoying herself. She's not concerned about what comes next - this moment is all that matters.

Nine of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Contentment, self-reliance, abundance, peace
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Relaxed, comfortable, fulfilled

✨ Unique: This version highlights the often-overlooked side of the card: knowing when to stop working and enjoy the results. The harvest matters, but so does taking time to appreciate it.

Reflection:
Across decks, the Nine of Pentacles celebrates personal achievement and independence. Maybe it's temporary; maybe it's just enough for you. However long it lasts, it's worth celebrating.

What have you done recently that deserves celebrating?

Jun 3 - Three of Cups (Images)

Three of Cups Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

I get by with a little help from my friends

The Three of Cups celebrates love, friendship and enjoyment. It usually shows a party or friends dancing together, emphasizing joy and fun. A few decks do change it up a bit, though!

1. Unfolding Path — Modern and sweet

These friends have reached the tired and giggly stage of their time together. They're completely comfortable in each others' company, relaxed and playful.

Three of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Friendship, emotional support, shared happiness, belonging
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Warm, relaxed, affectionate
✨ Unique: Instead of focusing on a celebration itself, this card captures what comes after - the comfortable ease of people who know each other well. It suggests that true friendship isn't just about special occasions, but about feeling at home together.

2. Witchs Cat — Cute but deep

These magical cats are enjoying each others' company. The Perthro rune represents the dice cup, suggesting that they enjoy playing games together - and, perhaps, that their friendship was divinely fated.

Three of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Friendship, good fortune, playfulness, connection
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Cheerful, cosy, slightly magical
✨ Unique: The Perthro rune introduces an element of fate and chance. Whether through luck or destiny, these cats have found companions who bring joy to their lives, reminding us that some friendships feel meant to be.

3. Patch Tarot — Colourful and meaningful

In this card, the characters are laying on the ground, evoking the easier friendships of childhood. The fruits and nuts surrounding them suggest abundance and harvest.

Three of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Community, abundance, shared experiences, gratitude
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Nostalgic, peaceful, content
✨ Unique: The relaxed pose evokes childhood summers and unstructured time with friends. Surrounded by the harvest, the card suggests that relationships, like gardens, flourish when they're nurtured over time.

Reflection:

Across decks, the Three of Cups celebrates friendship, community and shared joy. Life is easier when we have people to laugh with, lean on and celebrate alongside.

What have you done lately that deserves celebration?

May 18 - 6 of Pentacles (Images)

Six of Pentacles Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

What you give is what you gain when you pass it on

The Six of Pentacles is the card of generosity reciprocated. It reminds us to share when we can, so that we can hope to receive when we need. It's an interesting one to illustrate, as these three decks will show you!

1. The Unfolding Path — Modern and gentle

In this card a woman stands surrounded by gifts, offering them out to the supplicating hands. She has enough to share, so she shares. It's a beautiful version of the card.

Six of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Generosity, mutual support, abundance, community care
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Warm, compassionate, reassuring
✨ Unique: The open hands create a sense of connection rather than hierarchy. This version focuses less on power imbalance and more on the joy of sharing when you have enough to spare.

2. Cat Tarot — Feline behaviour

This cat is in feline heaven - there are six whole treats spread out on the floor! It's an amazing windfall and he's showing his gratitude by showing his belly, in proper cat fashion.

Six of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Gratitude, simple pleasures, receiving with trust, contentment
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Playful, cosy, delighted
✨ Unique: The cat’s exposed belly turns the card into a moment of total comfort and security. It captures the vulnerable side of receiving - accepting kindness often means trusting enough to relax.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer — Fandom images

Buffy unknowingly threaded tarot imagery through the whole series. Here, the demon Anyanka, patron saint of scorned women, is granting the wishes of two women. But Anyanka's gifts are never straightforward; those woman may regret what they've done.

Six of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Exchange, hidden costs, power dynamics, gifts with strings attached
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Tense, tempting, uneasy
✨ Unique: This version highlights the imbalance that can lurk beneath generosity. Anyanka gives freely, but never selflessly, reminding us that not every gift comes without consequences.

Reflection:

Across decks, the Six of Pentacles highlights sharing, the flow of resources and fairness - but also the complicated balance between giving and receiving.

Which side are you on today: offering support, or learning how to accept it?

May 6 - The Hanged Man (Images)

The Hanged Man Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view

The Hanged Man is about changing your perspective and taking the time to see things from a new angle. The original artwork was a reference to the Norse god Odin, and modern cards often use a similar image. This is a card that is often renamed or altered in decks.

1. The Unfolding Path — Modern and inclusive

This deck shows a gymnast hanging from a tire swing. The rope isn't tied off - she's trusting it to keep her up until she makes her breakthrough.

Hanged Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Surrender, trust, letting go of control, waiting for clarity
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Tense but hopeful, suspended, on the edge of breakthrough
✨ Unique: The untied rope is doing a lot of work here - this isn’t enforced stillness, it’s chosen. She could drop at any time, but she doesn’t. It highlights that this pause is an act of trust, not helplessness.

2. Mindscapes Tarot — Landscapes free of people

A polar bear plods along a patch of ice, pausing to look up and see the Northern Lights dancing far above. It doesn't change his world, but it's a moment of wonder.

The Hanged One Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Perspective shift, quiet realisation, moments of awe, seeing beyond the immediate
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Calm, contemplative, slightly surreal
✨ Unique: There’s no literal inversion, but the perspective still shifts - the bear looks up, breaking out of its grounded, survival-focused world. It reframes the card as a mental or emotional shift rather than a physical one.

3. Kids' Tarot — Bright and cheerful

The child in this card is hanging from a tree, enjoying himself. There's no worry about the future; he's completely in the moment.

The Upside Down Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Presence, play, curiosity, embracing a different view
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Light, carefree, joyful
✨ Unique: This strips away the weight the card often carries. There’s no sacrifice here - just the natural way children explore the world. It suggests that sometimes a new perspective isn’t hard-won; it’s something we’ve forgotten how to access.

Reflection:
Across decks, the Hanged Man asks us to pause and see things in a new light - through trust, through wonder, or through play. Which version is shining for you today?

Mar 8 - 5 of Swords (images)

5 of Swords Across Decks ⚔️✨

“Jefferson gets my vote.”

The 5 of Swords isn’t about glorious victory. It’s about choices made in conflict - and the cost that lingers afterwards. Someone wins. Someone loses. And sometimes the winner isn’t celebrating.

When this card appears, it can ask a hard question: was the battle worth it?

1. The Unfolding Path — The Cost of Winning

This is the card that first made the 5 of Swords click for me.

She stands barefoot and battered, her dress stained, her expression heavy. She holds a sword - she’s clearly won - but the other blades are planted behind her like quiet reminders of what it took to get here. There’s no triumph in her posture. Just endurance.

5 of Swords Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Pyrrhic victory, aftermath, consequence

  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Weary, reflective

  • ✨ Unique: The focus isn’t on conflict itself, but on what remains when it’s over.

This isn’t a card about domination. It’s about asking whether the fight was necessary — and living with the answer.

2. Nightfall Tarot — Conflict in Plain Sight

Nightfall leans more traditional, showing the tension and imbalance that define this card. Here, the conflict is visible. The dynamic is clearer. Someone has gained the upper hand - but it doesn’t feel harmonious.

5 of Swords Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Disagreement, tension, power imbalance

  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Sharp, uneasy

  • ✨ Unique: The classic imagery highlights the relational fracture at the heart of the card.

This version reminds us that not every victory restores peace.

3. Lieselle’s Eternal — Pick Your Battles

As a pip deck, this card doesn’t show a scene - it gives us clarity. The keyword here is simple and direct: “Pick your battles.”

And honestly? That’s the distilled wisdom of the 5 of Swords.

5 of Swords Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Discernment, strategy

  • ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Thoughtful, measured

  • ✨ Unique: The keyword reframes the card from conflict to choice.

Not every disagreement needs escalation. Not every hill is worth standing on.

Reflection

Across these decks, the 5 of Swords shifts in tone - from visible conflict, to weary aftermath, to quiet discernment. But the thread is the same: this is a card about choosing sides and accepting the consequences.

Sometimes you get your way.
Sometimes you stand alone with it.

Where in your life might it be time to step back and ask: is this a battle I truly need to fight?

Feb 8 - Ten of Pentacles (Images)

Ten of Pentacles Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

“Here we are, born to be kings - we’re the princes of the universe.” ๐Ÿ‘‘

The Ten of Pentacles is full, celebratory, and warm - legacy, abundance, family, and the joy of accomplishment. Think curtain-call energy: the work is done, the table is full, the heart is full, and everyone gets to celebrate together.

1. Gaian Tarot — Natural and gentle

An elderly man walks through the forest he has spent years nourishing. It's a rich mix of plants and animals - truly a worthy legacy.
Ten of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: What we leave behind
    ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Gentle, wistful
✨ Unique: There's only one person in it, unlike versions focused on family as legacy

2. Unfolding Path — Modern and inclusive

A family pose together, laughing and happy, safe in each other's company.
Ten of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Family, continuity, history
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Happy and friendly
✨ Unique: This is one of very few 'posed' cards in a deck full of natural moments

3. Nightmare Before Christmas — Playful and spooky

Nightmare before Christmas recasts the Pentacles as Presents, keeping the materialistic sense of the suit.
Ten of Pentacles Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: The Attic Snake surrounds his presents, happy and contented.
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: The Snake is at rest.
✨ Unique: The card keeps the Nightmare tone, with the tree decorated with bats instead of tinsel.

Reflection:
Across decks, the Ten of Pentacles celebrates triumph, connection, and abundance - in playful, modern, or natural ways. It’s the feeling of “we made it,” a full-circle moment that honours both effort and legacy.

Feb 4 - 5 of Cups (images)

5 of Cups Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

Sometimes people leave you, halfway through the wood...

The 5 of Cups is the cup of grief and fixation, focusing on what's lost and ignoring what's left. Grieving what’s gone is natural and necessary, but this card reminds us not to let loss eclipse everything else. Across decks, these artists have shown this feeling in different ways.

1. Witch's Cat Tarot — Whimsical images hide deeper meanings

A young white cat looks in dismay at some smashed potion bottles. Behind it, others are still standing upright, glowing in the moonlight, but the cat is focused on the losses.

5 of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Focusing on loss
    ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Upset, miserable
✨ Unique: This deck's cute artwork hide a lot of details, like the astrological symbols on the bottle labels.

2. Unfolding Path Tarot — Modern and simple

A young woman sits crosslegged, looking at three spilled goblets. There are two upright behind her, but her posture speaks of utter despair and resignation.

5 of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Despair
    ๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Sadness, resignation
✨ Unique: The deck's modern tone helps people relate to it

3. Gaian Tarot — Nature's healing balm

In the Gaian Tarot, a woman sits crosslegged on the bank of a lake. It's frosty out, but she's well wrapped up, holding a bowl of something warming. She's moved past the blame phase and is deciding how to move forward from here.

5 of Cups Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Nature, gentleness
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Planning, moving forward
✨ Unique: The Gaian Tarot focuses on nature and living gently.

Reflection:
Across decks, the 5 of Cups always speaks of loss - but not all grief looks the same. Some images linger in the pain, while others gently turn toward what comes next.
Which version meets you where you are today?

"...Do not let it grieve you, no one leaves for good." ๐ŸŒ™✨

Oct 14 - Tarot Characters: Nine of Pentacles

๐Ÿƒ The Nine of Pentacles is the card of security, safety and success. It might be temporary, but for at least that moment, things are right ...
