Jul 2 - The Summer Curiosity Spread

Summer is a season of exploration. Of wandering thoughts, open skies, and unexpected sparks.

This spread invites you to follow your curiosity - emotionally, creatively, spiritually. It’s not about productivity. It’s about play. Let your deck point toward what wants to grow.

๐Ÿƒ The Positions

1. What Sparks Your Curiosity? What’s calling for your attention or exploration this summer? What idea, emotion, or mystery wants to be followed?

2. Where to Explore? Which area of your life could benefit from curiosity or playfulness? Where might wonder lead to growth?

3. How to Stay Adventurous? What practical step can you take to lean into curiosity? How can you keep the spark alive?

๐Ÿง  Reader Prompts

  • What kind of curiosity feels safe - and what feels brave?

  • Where do you tend to shut down wonder, and why?

  • What’s one playful experiment you could try this week?

Jul 1 - Renamed Cards: Pros and Cons

Renaming tarot cards can be liberating, confusing, empowering - or all three at once. Whether you’re working with a fandom deck, a trauma-informed reframe, or a poetic indie creation, renamed cards come with emotional and symbolic consequences.

Let’s explore the pros and cons - without judgement, just clarity.

✅ Pros of Renamed Cards

1. Emotional Accessibility Renaming can soften emotionally charged archetypes. “Shadow” might feel more inviting than “Devil.” “Awakening” might feel more expansive than “Judgment.”

2. Trauma-Informed Reading Renamed cards can reduce triggering language and offer gentler entry points for reflection. “Transformation” instead of “Death” can shift the tone from fear to evolution.

3. Cultural Sensitivity Renaming allows decks to honour diverse spiritual frameworks and avoid religious overtones. “The Mentor” may resonate more broadly than “The Hierophant.”

4. Creative Storytelling Renamed suits and majors can support themed decks - sci-fi, pop culture, elemental, or ensemble-based. They help the deck speak in its own dialect.

5. Reader Empowerment Renaming invites you to question tradition and build your own symbolic logic. It’s a reminder: tarot is a relationship, not a rule book.

❌ Cons of Renamed Cards

1. Confusion for Beginners Renamed cards can make learning harder, especially if you’re trying to cross-reference with traditional meanings or guidebooks.

2. Loss of Shared Language Renaming may disrupt the symbolic shorthand used across decks, books, and communities. “The Glow Cloud” might be brilliant - but not everyone knows what it means.

3. Emotional Disconnection Sometimes renaming softens a card so much it loses its edge. “The Tower” becomes “Upheaval” - but does it still carry the same emotional punch?

4. Translation Fatigue If every card needs decoding, it can slow down your readings or make journalling feel like homework.

5. Risk of Over-Sanitizing Renaming can sometimes strip archetypes of their complexity. Not every “negative” card needs a makeover - some are meant to challenge.

๐Ÿง  Reader Prompts

  • Have you ever felt more connected to a renamed card?

  • Have you ever felt lost or disconnected by one?

  • What balance do you prefer - tradition, innovation, or a mix?

✨ Final Thought

Renamed cards aren’t better or worse. They’re different. They ask you to listen in a new way - and decide what language feels true to you.

Jun 30 - How to Create your Fandom Deck

You don’t need to publish a deck to design one. You just need a fandom, a cast, and a symbolic system that makes emotional sense.

A fandom deck takes your favourite world - whether it’s sci-fi, felt-covered, post-apocalyptic, or lovingly absurd - and reimagines it through tarot’s archetypes. You’re not just assigning characters. You’re mapping emotional logic.

๐Ÿƒ Step 1: Choose Your Fandom

Pick a world with strong archetypes, ensemble dynamics, and emotional depth. Some favourites we’ve explored include:

  • The Muppets

  • Stargate

  • The Tribe

  • Welcome to Night Vale

  • Fraggle Rock

  • Doctor Who

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender

๐Ÿงฉ Step 2: Cast the Majors

Assign characters or concepts to the Major Arcana based on feeling, not just plot roles.
Examples:

  • The Fool → The Recruit (Stargate)

  • The Emperor → Kermit (The Muppets)

  • The Tower → The Broadcast (Night Vale)

  • The Lovers → Piggy & Kermit (The Muppets)

  • Judgement → The Glow Cloud (Night Vale)

  • The Hierophant → The System Lord (Stargate) or Mokey (Fraggle Rock)

Ask yourself:

  • Who carries this archetype’s emotional weather?

  • Who challenges, comforts, or transforms others in this way?

๐Ÿช„ Step 3: Rename the Suits

Give your suits a twist that fits the world you’ve chosen. Examples:

  • Wands → Missions (Stargate)

  • Cups → Connections (The Tribe)

  • Swords → Broadcasts (Night Vale)

  • Pentacles → Resources (Post-apocalyptic worlds)

Or try element-based or role-based sets:
Fire / Water / Air / Earth
Microphones / Maps / Keys / Threads
Rebels / Healers / Strategists / Dreamers

๐ŸŽจ Step 4: Emotional Mapping

Think beyond the surface aesthetics. Ask:

  • What emotional tone runs through this deck?

  • Is it hopeful, chaotic, tragic, absurd, tender?

  • How does the world’s flavour shift the way you read the cards?

๐Ÿง  Reader Prompts

  • What fandom would you build a deck around?

  • Who would you cast as The Fool, The Tower, or The Star?

  • What suit names feel true to that world’s emotional logic?

✨ Final Thought

Designing a fandom deck isn’t just fan art - it’s emotional cartography. You’re tracing the symbolic heartbeat of stories that already live in your mind. You don’t have to finish the deck (few of us ever do), but every card you map deepens your understanding of the archetypes.

Whether you build it for fun, for ritual, or just because you can’t stop thinking about what kind of High Priestess Miss Piggy would make, your deck is allowed to be weird, wonderful, and wildly specific.

Which world would you turn into a deck - and who’s your Fool?

Jun 29 - King of Wands (Images)

King of Wands Across Decks ๐ŸŽด✨

I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you

The King of Wands is the hardest worker in the deck. He's dedicated to his tasks and knows how to keep going when necessary. The traditional deck shows this with his kingly posture and treasures, but some decks go a little different.

1. Arcanum Tarot — Detailed and serious

This most traditional of our Kings owes a lot to the RWS; he's red tinted, holds his wand and watches a salamander dart about nearby. He's thoughtful and serious, considering his next move carefully.

King of Wands Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Responsibility, mastery, long-term planning, grounded power
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Serious, thoughtful, steady
✨ Unique: This King’s strength comes from patience and control - he doesn’t rush decisions because he’s already thinking ten steps ahead.

2. Tarot for Me and You — Modern and inclusive

This King is a business person, signing checks and looking over paperwork. They're confident and at ease in their work; they know this is where they excel.

King of Wands Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Financial security, leadership, competence, stability
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Confident, calm, practical
✨ Unique: He represents success that is actively maintained - work isn’t just what he does, it’s what he’s built into a sustainable system.

3. Mindscapes Tarot — Arty and meditative

The Mindscapes Courts are from the point of view of the character. Here the King is looking out over a successful farm he's built up. His patient work has led  to a good life.

King of Wands Vibes:

  • ๐Ÿงช Key themes: Legacy, stewardship, growth, long-term reward
๐ŸŽจ Emotional tone: Peaceful, reflective, accomplished
✨ Unique: Seen through his own perspective, this King isn’t chasing success anymore - he’s observing what his steady work has created.

Reflection:
Across decks, the King of Wands demonstrates how vision and authority inspire action. He knows what he wants and he works hard for it. What part of your life needs some hard work and attention right now?

Jun 28 - Breaking in a New Deck

Getting a new tarot deck is like meeting a new friend - a little mysterious at first, but full of potential. The goal isn’t to “train” the cards, it’s to familiarise yourself with their energy, imagery, and quirks.

Some gentle ways to break in a deck:
✨ Flip through the cards and take note of which images catch your eye.
✨ Pull a card a day, even just for a quick reflection.
✨ Shuffle mindfully, letting your hands get used to the weight and texture.
✨ Talk to your deck - yes, really! A little hello or intention-setting can help you feel connected.

Different decks sometimes call for slightly different approaches. Thin, flexible cardstock is easy to shuffle and might feel ready for readings right away. Thicker or coated decks can take a little longer to feel comfortable in your hands. And illustrated or themed decks with complex imagery? Take extra time exploring the details - your intuition will notice what your eyes might initially miss.

Remember, every deck has its own personality. Some will feel instantly comfortable, others will take a few weeks (or months) to really reveal their voice. Treat it as a conversation, not a chore.

๐Ÿ’ญ What’s your favourite ritual when you first meet a new deck - a single-card draw, a full spread, or something completely unexpected?

Jun 26 - Yes, but...

Pull three cards:
1️⃣ One for the situation.
2️⃣ One for the twist.
3️⃣ One for the outcome.

The first card sets the scene: what’s going on, what’s normal, what you expect.
The second card throws in a twist - the “yes, but…” moment that changes everything.
The third card shows how it all turns out, the resolution after the surprise.

Think of it as a mini story with your cards. Sometimes the twist is subtle, sometimes it’s wild - either way, it keeps your reading playful and inventive.

Example:

  • Situation: The Sun - everything is bright and positive.

  • Twist: The Moon - a hidden factor or uncertainty appears.

  • Outcome: The Fool - a new path emerges, maybe a leap of faith is needed.

Suddenly your sunny scenario has a curveball, and the resolution isn’t what you expected - a reminder that life (and tarot) loves a little drama.

๐Ÿ’ญ What situation, twist, and outcome are showing up for you today - is it dramatic, funny, or a little mysterious?

Oct 14 - Tarot Characters: Nine of Pentacles

๐Ÿƒ The Nine of Pentacles is the card of security, safety and success. It might be temporary, but for at least that moment, things are right ...
